Volunteer Spotlight – Sherri DelBiondo

June 19, 2015

Everything we do is made possible because of our amazing volunteers. We will be highlighting many of these great individuals throughout the year in our Volunteer Spotlight. For more information on this program or to suggest a volunteer to spotlight, click here.

Volunteer Spotlight – Sherri DelBiondo

SherriSherri  is a volunteer from Harrisburg, PA. As a long-time Y member, she was instrumental in bringing the NIP’s Let’s ALL Play camp to her local Y in 2008. And, she’s happy to report, it’s still going strong today! As a volunteer, Sherri secured and managed a Wrapping for Inclusion (WFI) location in Harrisburg for several years. Additionally, she lent her talents to the children’s carnival at the Marbles Museum during the 2011 Gala weekend.

Sherri’s most recent adventure in volunteering came when she was part of the planning committee for the NIP’s first ever Save the Day 5K held in Raleigh in May 2015. As a runner for over 25 years, Sherri was thrilled to be able to contribute her efforts to help make the race a great success. And, according to Sherri, making the trek to Raleigh to participate in the race was icing on the cake! Sherri plans to step up her efforts by taking on the Race Director duties as the NIP expands the Save the Day 5Ks to other parts of the country. Under Sherri’s direction, Harrisburg will hold its own Save the Day 5K in October 2016!

Sherri credits the NIP with raising her awareness of the needs of individuals within the community who are often left on the sidelines. Through volunteering with and learning through the NIP, she has been able to promote person-first language, initiate grants for needed adaptations at her local Y, and engage in activities such as pushing athletes with mobility impairments in athletic events so they, too, can experience the thrill of competition.

Sherri encourages everyone to use their talents and volunteer for the NIP. There’s no better joy than the smiles on faces of individuals getting to participate in all life has to offer!
