Volunteer Spotlight – Linda Learn

February 25, 2015

Everything we do is made possible because of our amazing volunteers. We will be highlighting some of these great individuals throughout the year in our Volunteer Spotlight. For more information on this program, click here.

February 2015 Volunteer Spotlight – LINDA LEARN

Linda Learn Vol SpotlightLinda became involved with the National Inclusion Project at its inception in 2003. As a Social Worker by education and a College Counselor/Disabilities Coordinator at a small college, the mission of the Project aligned perfectly with her beliefs.

“My son attended 12 years of school with Sara, a girl with Down Syndrome, and I saw the difference inclusion made in her life and how my son had learned to interact with ALL children.” (The girl Linda speaks of was very recently instrumental in the passage of the ABLE act. You can read more about her here.)

“I’ve watched the Project grow over the years, heard and read stories of the lives that were changed because of one person caring enough for another. Inclusion has become part of my soul, and therefore, the funds (albeit small) that our Bingo raises brings me joy. At this point, I see it as friends helping friends.”

Her involvement as a volunteer in Northeastern PA started in 2003 when a group of friends started brainstorming about what they could do to help out with creation of the Project. Over the years, they’ve held many different types of events – some small, some not so small, but all successful in creating awareness for the Project and the benefits of inclusion.

“These annual events have in large part become social in nature to us, but we never forget why we are there and are always sure to relay the message that no child should sit on the sidelines.”

Linda and her friends in PA will be holding their 4th Annual Bingo for Inclusion on April 12th in Dickson City, PA. You can check out more details on our events calendar.

If you are interested in learning how you can volunteer with upcoming events or interested in hosting your own like Linda, let us know and we’ll find something that fits your interests and skill sets.
